If you’re planning a trip to Dallas, or entertaining a move out of state, here is your go-to visitors guide for everything you need to know! I’ve interviewed my Douglas Elliman colleague, Amy Messer, for her favorite local recommendations on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do in Dallas. Read on to learn about the market and Amy’s advice for where to invest in Texas.
Q: What hotels do you recommend for out-of-town buyers visiting Dallas?
A: There are actually a lot of great hotels in Dallas! My favorites are The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, The Crescent (pictured above), The Joule, or Hotel Swexan.
Q: What’s the best time to visit Dallas?
A: Fall is a great time to visit…once the heat of the summer subsides a bit, the entire city is outside and full of great energy.
Q: What areas are up and coming and would be a good place to invest?
A: I have a longer answer for this because Dallas is growing so much, but I would invest in Mansion Park, Kessler Park, Oak Lawn or Knox/Henderson. None of these are necessarily up and coming, but still undervalued.
Q: How much is a normal 4 bedroom family house in Dallas?
A: We have so many beautiful neighborhoods at different price points, but I think a great average is about $2.5million.
Q: What are the pros and cons of living in Dallas?
Pros: You can fly anywhere in the US or Mexico in about 3 hours or less! Also, the people are genuinely really kind and it feels very safe.
Cons: The summers are HOT!
Q: Best restaurants?
A: Beverley’s, Green Point, The Charles, Mister Charles, El Carlos Elegante, Tango Room, Sister, Shoyo, I could go on forever…
Q: Most fun things to do in Dallas?
A: Although Dallas is known for great shopping and margaritas (both accurate!), we also have amazing outdoor spaces and trails like Klyde Warren Park, The Katy Trail and White Rock Lake right in the middle of our city. There is also a really brilliant arts scene with incredible museums and shows.
