Spring Cleaning with Elaine Krim

Spring Cleaning

Spring represents a season of rebirth, renewal, and change – making it the perfect time to declutter and refresh your space. The less you own, the easier it is to clean and maintain your home.

This month, I asked expert organizer and my dear friend Elaine Krim to share some of her tips to easily transform your home for spring. Read on for Elaine’s suggestions to get you started!

Pantry, Refrigerator, and Beauty Products

Now is a great time to inventory the food in your pantry and refrigerator.  Dispose of expired items, organize like categories together in storage bins, and wipe down all shelves and bins in the pantry and refrigerator. These bamboo drawer dividers are perfect for organizing kitchen drawers, as well as your bathroom vanity.

Any beauty products should be discarded after 1 year. Even if you do this task regularly, you will be surprised that you can always find at least one expired item!

Clothing

A good rule of thumb is: if you haven’t worn an item in a year, then get rid of it.

NCJWLA and Out of the Closet are two local charitable organizations where I take clothing and household donations.  I love that my “no longer loved items” are being used to provide funds for vital community services.  A double win!

Windows

There is no better way to view your garden full of spring flowers than through a clean window! This is especially true after all of the rain we’ve experienced in Southern California this past winter.

Whether you hire someone or tackle this project yourself, clear windows can instantly brighten any room. There are cleaning cloths you can purchase (I love these!) that clean glass without chemicals and leaves your glass streak-free and ready to bathe your home in sunlight.

Paper Clutter

Contain and maintain. Find a system that works for you and stick with it.

In this electronic age, there is less need for saving paper receipts and bills. A favorite photo or children’s artwork? There are many online resources to help with the preservation of these sentimental artifacts.

If you’re ready to begin your spring cleaning but would like some assistance getting started with organization or decluttering, you can contact Elaine at the phone number or email below.
