Juliette Hohnen Design Series | Hollywood Regency

Many may find it hard to believe that the current “Maximalist” trend actually had a predecessor that dates back to the 1930’s: Hollywood Regency. With the rise of the Los Angeles film industry, many directors and actors wanted to show-out the glamour of their (at the time) new lifestyle (Alyson McNutt English, Hollywood Regency Style: Get the Look, HGTV). As an LA staple, Hollywood Regency can now be seen either as it originally was or with a modern twist all throughout the city. Below is a classic example, taken at my newly listed property 12831 Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills.

  1. Gold accents
Reminiscent of the previous Art Deco era in the 1920’s, Hollywood Regency styles also used gold heavily.

  2. Velvet furniture
Nothing says opulence more than velvet upholstery and furniture. And Hollywood Regency does not shy away from velvet.

  3. Grand lighting
In these present times of selfies and social media, we all know that lighting is very important. Opt for more glamorous and moody, warm light fixtures.

  4.  Pink, green and gold color palette
Think Lily Pulitzer meets a West Coast The Great Gatsby.
